The
Memorial
This structure will
memorialize those who have died as a result of legalized abortion and
all those who suffer physically, emotionally, and/or spiritually due to
abortion. This includes
babies, mothers, fathers, families and friends.
Mourning the Dead and Wounded
As students at Villanova, Americans, and fellow human beings, we know
that all life is sacred. No
one is more hurt by abortion than the babies who are murdered and the
mothers, fathers, friends and family who must mourn the loss of a child.
Funerals and burial of loved
ones is a testament to that person but also an important part of the
healing process for those who suffer the loss of a loved one.
Unfortunately, almost all aborted babies are not given a proper burial.
Through this memorial, we can
honor those children who died and allow healing to take place.
We can also give comfort to those who suffer the physical,
emotional, and spiritual pain of losing a child.
The Sculpture
Catholic
Canadian sculptor Timothy P.
Schmaltz created the beautiful statue which he named “Maternal
Bond.” Mr. Schmaltz has been sculpting since the age of sixteen and
he will be creating this life-size bronze-cast sculpture for our
monument.
Location
The memorial's
tentative location is along the South Campus trail near Ithan Ave.
There will be two benches and shrubbery surrounding the area.
We hope to make this location
a place of reflection and prayer. It
is located on a well-known area of campus so that all will know it is
there, but in a remote location so that one can find peace and solitude
to reflect and pray.
Thank
you to Andrew Moreno, '07, for his drawing!
